Addiction (general)

An addiction can make you feel like you've lost control — recognizing that is often the first real step toward getting it back.

How it shows up

Addiction is an obsessive, hard-to-control attachment to a substance or behavior — commonly drugs, alcohol, gambling, nicotine, shopping, or food. It often starts as a habit that feels harmless, then gradually becomes more deeply ingrained until it starts affecting daily life.

Common warning signs include:

  • It overrides your feelings and responsibilities
  • You’ve stopped doing things you used to enjoy
  • Physical withdrawal symptoms when you try to stop, like irritability or nausea
  • Strain on work or relationships
  • Needing more of the behavior or substance to get the same effect

If you’re on prescribed medication, always talk with your doctor before making changes related to that medication.

How hypnotherapy helps

Hypnotherapy for addiction works by inducing a relaxed, more receptive state where you’re better able to take in suggestions and ideas aligned with your own goals. By helping you build a stronger sense of control over your own behavior, hypnotherapy supports the deeper emotional work of understanding what the addiction has been doing for you — and building healthier ways to meet that same need.

Pattie has worked with clients navigating addiction recovery, including some connected to rehab programs, offering support during the early stages of recovery and afterward to help maintain the progress made.

What a session looks like

Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation. Sessions after that are $150, available at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or remotely by Zoom.

Common questions

Is this a substitute for rehab or medical detox? No — for substance dependency, always start with your doctor or a medical detox program. Hypnotherapy works best as a complement to that care, not a replacement.

What if my addiction started as a way to cope with something else, like anxiety or grief? That’s very common. Pattie will talk through the underlying causes with you so the work addresses what’s really driving the behavior.

How many sessions will I need? It depends on the person and how long the pattern has been in place — this will be discussed honestly during your consultation.
