Alcohol Abuse
If drinking has become something you rely on to feel good or avoid feeling bad, it may be time for a real change — hypnotherapy can help you make it stick.
How it shows up
Alcohol abuse can develop gradually, shaped by factors like family history, social environment, and emotional health. People managing anxiety, depression, or other struggles are especially at risk, since alcohol is sometimes used to self-medicate.
You may have a drinking problem if you:
- Feel guilty or ashamed about your drinking
- Hide it from others or lie about how much you drink
- Have friends or family who’ve expressed concern
- Need a drink to relax or feel better
- Regularly drink more than you intended, or black out
If you’re managing a medical condition or take prescribed medication, please talk with your doctor before making any changes related to alcohol use.
How hypnotherapy helps
Trying to white-knuckle your way past alcohol abuse rarely lasts — what tends to work is a genuine shift in how you relate to drinking altogether. Pattie’s approach blends hypnosis, relaxation techniques, and guided imagery to help you make that change at a deeper level, so old cravings lose their pull instead of being constantly resisted.
Part of the work is building the confidence to simply say no — to the drink, and to the people or situations that keep pulling you back toward old patterns.
What a session looks like
Every client starts with a free, no-obligation consultation to talk through what’s going on and what kind of support could help. Sessions after that are $150, available at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or remotely by Zoom.
Common questions
Is this a substitute for medical detox or rehab? No — if you may be physically dependent on alcohol, please talk with your doctor first, since stopping can carry real medical risk. Hypnotherapy works best as a complement to proper medical care.
Do I need to already be sober to start? Not necessarily — bring this up during your free consultation so Pattie can talk through the right starting point for your situation.
How is this different from AA or a 12-step program? Hypnotherapy can work alongside programs like these rather than replacing them — many clients use both.
