Baseball Slumps
A slump isn't a mechanics problem, it's usually a mind problem. Mental training helps you break the cycle and get back to your natural game.
How it shows up
A slump often starts small: one bad at-bat, one shaky outing, and it should end there. Instead, the mind starts replaying it, tensing up before the next swing or pitch, second-guessing mechanics that were working fine last week. What began as one bad game turns into weeks of pressing, overthinking, and frustration, even when nothing has actually changed physically.
This pattern shows up in hitters whose batting average slides despite feeling like they’re doing everything right, and in pitchers who suddenly struggle with control or velocity they’ve always had.
How hypnotherapy helps
Sports Mental Training works directly with the subconscious mind, the part that’s holding onto the memory of the slump and the fear of it repeating. Pattie Freeman, a NESTA-certified Sports Mind Coach who has worked with professional and collegiate athletes, uses hypnosis and visualization to interrupt that stress-and-doubt cycle and rebuild the automatic, confident execution that got buried under it.
The goal isn’t to change your swing or your mechanics. It’s to clear out the mental interference so your body can do what it already knows how to do.
What a session looks like
Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation, in person at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or by phone or Zoom, to talk through when the slump started and what it feels like in the moment. From there, sessions run $150 each, with many players seeing a shift within a short series of sessions.
Common questions
Is a slump really “in my head” if my numbers are actually down? Yes and no; the results are real, but the root cause is often a mental pattern, stress, doubt, overthinking, that’s affecting your natural execution, not a sudden loss of skill.
Can this help mid-season, or do I need to wait for the off-season? Sessions can happen any time, including mid-season, since the goal is to get you back to form as quickly as possible.
Does this work for both hitters and pitchers? Yes. Sessions are customized to your specific role and the way the slump is showing up for you.
