Drug Abuse
Drug abuse can take hold gradually, often as a way of coping with something else — hypnotherapy can help you understand it and build a different path forward.
How it shows up
Not everyone who uses recreational drugs develops a serious problem, but for some, it becomes something that touches every part of life — home, work, relationships, and self-worth. Drug abuse often starts as a way of escaping stress, anxiety, or an earlier difficult experience, and over repeated use it can start to feel like something you can’t function without.
Common signs include:
- Substance use starting to outweigh responsibilities at home, work, or school
- Taking risks while using, like driving under the influence
- Needing larger amounts to get the same effect
- Withdrawal symptoms like nausea, anxiety, or low mood when you’re without it
- Feeling unable to control how much you use
If you’re managing prescribed medication or a medical dependency, please involve your doctor before making changes — some withdrawal can carry real medical risk.
How hypnotherapy helps
Repeated drug use changes how the brain experiences pleasure, which is part of why the pull can feel so strong. The encouraging side is that these patterns can also be unlearned. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind to help loosen the grip of that learned response, paired with the personal effort and honesty that real change requires.
Pattie’s approach focuses on understanding what’s underneath the drug use — old trauma, ongoing stress, or another root cause — so the work addresses the real driver, not just the behavior on the surface.
What a session looks like
Every client starts with a free 20-minute consultation. Sessions after that are $150, available at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or remotely by Zoom.
Common questions
Is this a replacement for medical detox? No — if there’s a risk of physical dependency, please work with a doctor or medical detox program first. Hypnotherapy is meant to complement that care, not replace it.
Can this help with cravings during recovery, not just quitting? Yes — many clients use hypnotherapy to support ongoing recovery and help manage cravings after the initial withdrawal period.
What if I relapse? Relapse doesn’t mean the work has failed — it’s common, and Pattie can help you get back on track without judgment.
