EMDR
Some memories stay stuck, replaying with the same intensity years later. EMDR helps the mind finally process and file them away.
How it shows up
Distressing or traumatic memories don’t always fade with time the way we expect them to. Instead, they can stay “stuck,” triggered by a sound, a place, or a situation that brings the same emotional intensity rushing back, even long after the original event. This can show up as anxiety, flashbacks, avoidance of certain situations, or a general sense of being on edge that doesn’t have an obvious current-day cause.
How hypnotherapy helps
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. Pattie Freeman is a Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist trained in EMDR as one of the modalities she offers, using it either on its own or alongside hypnosis, depending on what fits your situation.
The goal isn’t to erase the memory. It’s to help your mind file it away the way it files ordinary memories, so it no longer triggers the same intense emotional and physical response when it comes up.
What a session looks like
Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation, in person at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or by phone or Zoom, to talk through what you’re working through and whether EMDR is the right fit. From there, sessions run $150 each.
Common questions
Is EMDR the same as hypnosis? No, though Pattie may combine the two depending on your needs. EMDR uses a specific reprocessing technique distinct from hypnotic induction.
Do I have to describe the traumatic event in detail? EMDR is designed to work with distressing memories without requiring you to relive every detail out loud; Pattie will walk you through what to expect at your consultation.
What kinds of experiences is EMDR used for? It’s commonly used for trauma, distressing memories, and experiences that continue to trigger a strong emotional response well after the fact.
