Food Addiction

Food addiction is rarely about food itself — it's often about control, comfort, and coping. Hypnotherapy works with the thinking behind the eating.

How it shows up

Food is necessary for life, but for some people the line between healthy eating and compulsive eating gets blurry. Food addiction often shows up as a loss of control — eating too much, or in response to stress, boredom, or difficult emotions rather than hunger.

It can be a lonely experience, often hidden from friends and family, and it can chip away at self-esteem over time. Common contributing factors include stress, anxiety, depression, and family patterns learned early — like being taught to always finish your plate or seek comfort in certain foods.

How hypnotherapy helps

Overcoming food addiction is less about changing your diet and more about changing your relationship with food and how you cope with hard moments. Hypnotherapy works to identify what triggers the behavior and helps you build new, healthier responses in its place — so a stressful day leads somewhere other than the pantry.

Pattie’s approach uses the power of suggestion to help rebuild self-esteem and change the negative thought patterns tied to eating, working at the pace that’s right for you.

What a session looks like

Every client starts with a free 20-minute consultation. Sessions after that are $150, available at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or remotely by Zoom.

Common questions

Is this the same as a weight-loss program? Not exactly — food addiction work focuses on your relationship with food and eating behaviors. If weight loss is also a goal, ask about Pattie’s dedicated weight-loss programs.

Do I need to be ready to change my whole diet first? No — as with any addiction work, what matters most is a genuine readiness to change your thinking, not a perfect diet plan going in.

Can this help with emotional eating specifically? Yes, that’s a common focus — learning to manage stress and difficult emotions without automatically turning to food.
