Panic Attacks
Panic attacks can feel like they come out of nowhere, and the fear of another one can be almost as hard to live with as the attack itself.
How it shows up
A panic attack is your body’s fight-flight-freeze response firing at full intensity, often in response to a situation that doesn’t call for it. It comes on fast — usually peaking within about 10 minutes — and can include:
- Racing heartbeat or chest pain
- Very rapid or difficult breathing
- Dizziness or feeling faint
- Sweating, tingling, or hot and cold flushes
- A wave of nausea
- A sense of unreality or overwhelming fear
Most attacks last between five and twenty minutes, though some people experience one attack rolling into another. They can even happen at night during sleep. However frightening it feels in the moment, a panic attack passing without lasting physical harm is the typical pattern — but it’s still important to rule out any physical cause with your doctor first, since things like blood sugar swings, over-breathing, caffeine, or certain medications can contribute to panic symptoms.
How hypnotherapy helps
Once a physical cause has been ruled out, hypnotherapy can help you work with the psychological side of panic — the anticipatory fear that builds between attacks and the sense of losing control during one. Pattie uses clinical hypnosis alongside CBT and NLP to help you build a calmer relationship with the sensations themselves, so they feel less like an emergency and more like something you can ride out.
This work takes real engagement on your part — hypnotherapy isn’t magic, and it only helps when paired with a genuine desire to change and consistent effort.

Common questions
Should I see a doctor first? Yes — it’s important to rule out a physical cause for your symptoms before starting hypnotherapy, so you know you’re addressing the right thing.
Will hypnotherapy stop panic attacks completely? No one can promise a specific outcome. What it can do is help reduce their frequency and intensity and give you tools to manage one if it happens.
Can this help with nighttime panic attacks too? Yes, the same underlying anxiety response is usually involved — it’s worth mentioning in your consultation so the approach can be tailored.
