Social Phobia
Social phobia can make ordinary moments, a party, a meeting, a phone call, feel like a performance under a spotlight. Hypnotherapy helps quiet that spotlight.
How it shows up
Social phobia (also called social anxiety) is fundamentally a fear of being judged by other people. It can show up as intense self-consciousness at parties or gatherings, avoiding phone calls or small talk, over-rehearsing conversations before they happen, or physical symptoms like blushing, sweating, or a racing heart when you’re around others.
For some, it stays mild, a bit of nerves before a social event that fades once you’re there. For others, it becomes severe enough to limit friendships, career opportunities, or day-to-day life, sometimes tipping into the kind of social withdrawal seen in more severe cases.
How hypnotherapy helps
Every phobia is a substitute for some other worry the mind is carrying, and with social phobia that worry is almost always tied to being judged, rejected, or found lacking in some way. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind to loosen the grip of that underlying fear rather than simply coaching you through social situations from the outside.
Pattie draws on hypnosis, CBT, and NLP to help you build a calmer, more automatic response to being around other people, so social settings start to feel like something you can move through rather than something you have to brace for.
What a session looks like
You’ll start with a free 20-minute consultation, in person at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or by phone or Zoom, to talk through what triggers your anxiety and what you want sessions to change. From there, sessions run $150 each, with the total number depending on how long-standing the fear is.
Common questions
Is social phobia the same as being introverted? No. Introversion is a personality preference; social phobia is a fear response that can affect introverts and extroverts alike and often causes real distress or avoidance.
Will hypnotherapy make me a completely different personality? No. The goal is to remove the fear response that’s getting in your way, not to change who you are.
Can this help with specific situations, like public speaking or dating, not just general social settings? Yes. Sessions are customized to the specific situations that trigger your anxiety.
