The Zone
Every athlete knows the feeling: the game slows down, everything clicks, and you're just there. Mental training helps you find that state on purpose.
How it shows up
“The zone” is that state athletes describe when performance feels effortless, focus is total, and self-doubt disappears entirely. Most athletes have experienced it at some point, and most also know how frustrating it is that it seems to come and go on its own. The challenge isn’t knowing the feeling exists; it’s learning how to get there reliably instead of hoping it shows up.
Without training, staying “in the zone” or getting back into it after a mistake can feel like luck rather than something you can control.
How hypnotherapy helps
Pattie Freeman, a NESTA-certified Sports Mind Coach, works with athletes at every level to help them access peak performance more consistently. Sports Mental Training uses hypnosis and visualization to train your subconscious mind to enter and stay in that focused, confident state, so it becomes something you can call on rather than something that just happens occasionally.
This isn’t about hype or motivation talk. It’s about training the same automatic, effortless focus that already shows up in your best performances, so it becomes your baseline instead of your exception.
What a session looks like
Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation, in person at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or by phone or Zoom, to talk through your sport, your goals, and what’s currently getting in the way. From there, sessions run $150 each, customized to your sport and performance goals.
Common questions
Is this only for elite or professional athletes? No. Pattie works with athletes at every level, from high school to collegiate to professional, who want a mental edge.
How is this different from visualization I could do on my own? Sessions use hypnosis to work directly with the subconscious mind, going deeper than surface-level visualization exercises you might try independently.
Can this help with recovering focus after an injury too? Yes. Mental training also supports athletes working through the mindset side of returning from injury, alongside physical recovery.
