Tinnitus

Tinnitus can make ordinary quiet moments feel loud and stressful. Hypnotherapy helps retrain how your mind responds to the sound.

How it shows up

Tinnitus is the perception of ringing, buzzing, whistling, humming, or hissing sounds in one or both ears, and it’s relatively common, affecting an estimated 10% of the population at some point. It can be continuous or intermittent, high-pitched or low and rumbling, and it’s often linked to hearing damage from exposure to loud noise. In many cases it improves over time, though it’s important to check with your doctor for any underlying medical cause first.

There isn’t a single treatment that works for everyone. When a physical cause can be identified and treated, tinnitus may improve; when it can’t, symptom-focused approaches, including hypnosis, can help make daily life easier.

How hypnotherapy helps

Hypnotherapy for tinnitus works by accessing the subconscious part of the mind that stores memory, imagination, and habitual responses. By working with this part of the mind, Pattie helps train your brain’s reaction to the tinnitus sensation itself, so you learn to notice the sound less and let your attention naturally tune away from it. Because tinnitus is often tangled up with stress and low mood, sessions frequently address those connected issues at the same time, which tends to strengthen the overall results.

What a session looks like

Every new client starts with a free 20-minute consultation, in person at Pattie’s Scottsdale office or by phone or Zoom, to talk through your symptoms and any medical history relevant to your tinnitus. From there, sessions run $150 each.

Common questions

Will hypnotherapy make the sound go away completely? The goal is to change your relationship to the sound, helping your mind tune it out more naturally, rather than promising complete elimination.

Should I see a doctor first? Yes, it’s important to rule out or address any underlying medical cause before or alongside hypnotherapy sessions.

Does stress make tinnitus worse? Often, yes. Stress and low mood are commonly linked to tinnitus, which is part of why addressing them through hypnotherapy can help overall symptoms.
